On Saturday, July 25th, TL Hanna Hall of Fame tennis coach Sandy Thompson was honored as a member of the SC Athletic Coaches Association's class of 2026 Hall of Fame class.
Thompson coaches boys and girls tennis at TL Hanna from 1986 until 2012. Her coaching record with the boys was 349-100, while her career record with the girls program was 339-107. Her teams at TL Hanna won 15 boys and 13 girls region championships, as well as 3 state championships (1986, 1987, 1988). She was named the state coach of the year 4 times, the region coach of the year 28 times, and her teams at TL Hanna had 17 appearances as one of the final four teams in the playoffs.
Coach Thompson coaches the North-South Tennis Classic twice. She served as the president of the SC Tennis Coaches Association and was the Vice Chairman of the National High School Tennis Committee.
Coach Thompson had the following to say about the selection: "I want to thank John Crosson for teaching me everything I know about tennis and helping me for 25 years as an assistant coach. Thank you to Mr. Sams for all his support of the tennis program over the years. Thank you to all of my players. I was just there to be the commander, but the players and parents helped create a TL Hanna tennis community that was large and proud. They would do anything that was need to do to win. I really just had so many great players on the boys and girls side."
