The TL Hanna Girls Tennis team used a strong performance on Tuesday night from the bottom part of the line up to advance to the state championship match on Saturday against West Florence High School. The match will be played at the Cayce Tennis Center at 10:00 AM.
In the match vs Greenville, TL Hanna had to compete without North/South All Star Josie Eskridge. This shuffling of the lineup was certainly not desired for TL Hanna as they took on a tough team in Greenville, who they defeated in region play by scores of 4-2 and 4-3. At #1 and #2 singles, Melina Moncada and Emery Tripamer won in two sets. At #3 singles, senior Meri Drake Venturella moved up from her normal #4 spot and defeated her opponent in straight sets. Meri Drake and her opponenet had split two three set matches previously during the season. At #4 singles, Lauren Yaekoub picked up the win after moving up from #5 singles in straight sets.
The surprise momentum swing of the night and clinching point to advance TL Hanna to the state championship match came at #2 doubles where Emry Smith and Karis Kim turned in a dominating performance to win 6-2, 6-0. The Jacket 2 doubles team had previously lost to the Greenville pairing 3 times this season, including two third set tiebreakers. However, Smith and Kim stepped up really big with the loss of Eskridge for the match and helped spark the Jacket lineup with their efforts.
