The annual South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Banquet was held in Greenville, SC on Sunday, July 27th, and the TL Hanna athletic department had three coaches recognized.
Girls golf coach Gabby Kitts was presented with her 2024 State Coach of the Year ring and award plaque. Kitts, entering her 5th year at TL Hanna as golf coach, led the Yellow Jackets to their first state championship in girls golf in school history.
Former TL Hanna boys soccer coach Dickie Smith was recognized for 50 years of service to the coaches association. Coach Smith, a TL Hanna Hall of Fame member, has stayed active in the soccer coaches association working the state championship game series and as a host for the girls and boys soccer North/South All Star Classic.
Wrestling coach Lance Abernathy was recognized for his 30 years of service to the coaches association. Coach Abernathy, winner of 4 state championships in his career, has worked with the coaches association and been named a North/South all star coach numerous times. At TL Hanna, his 2023 team won the first ever region championship in the 50 year history of offering the sport at the school.
